Prepping your grill is one of the most important steps for great grilling.
- Ensure that your grill is clean for safety (dirty jokes are fun, dirty grills are not)
- Clean the grill well in order that you do not transfer flavors of food (flavors will be added by another means).
- A great time to clear your grill of all residues is right after you finish cooking while the grate is still hot. Scraping prior to cooking may cause flare-ups, which will lead to funky flavors in your food. Funky and food are not a good mix.
- Preheat the grill a minimum of 10 minutes and up to 30 minutes, sears the meat, prevents sticking and makes the nice grill marks (this helps to ensure even cooking and kills any bacteria or insects that you may have missed in your grill cleaning process - unless you like a little extra protein)
-
Spray the grill with a nonstick coating in order that your food will not stick (save the sticky for after the meal).
